Gemma Kemp

Operations Director

I started my career as a graduate trainee with Allied Domeq in Human Resources and have worked in a number of different industries including IT, Semiconductors and Pharmaceuticals in HR and training roles.

I joined Salutem as the Operations Director in 2017 and have enjoyed managing the team to deliver our vision of enabling young people (who may have run out of options) to start or develop a career in construction. I have handpicked the team at Salutem and we are all committed to delivering high quality apprenticeships and helping all our students to reach their full potential. The highlight of my week is seeing more students’ photos added to our alumni board and checking in with them from time to time to see how they are progressing in their careers.

Emily Humphrey

Office Manager

As the Office Manager and Functional skills tutor, I play a key role in supporting learners throughout their apprenticeship journey, delivering high-quality Functional Skills training and managing the day-to-day operations of the office.

I hold a law degree from university, which laid the foundation for starting a career in administration. Since joining the organisation my passion for teaching and supporting others led me to pursue additional qualifications, achieving both Level 3 and Level 5 certifications in education and training.

With a unique combination of administrative skills and teaching skills I thrive on the variety the role offers, from mentoring apprentices and delivering tailored learning sessions to working through paperwork in the office.

Outside of work, I enjoy staying active through running and regular visits to the gym. I value hard work, and I bring the same level of energy and commitment to my professional life.

As a Groundworker and Construction Apprentice Tutor at Salutem Limited, I bring hands-on experience and a deep commitment to quality, safety, and education in the construction industry. Over the years, I’ve contributed to a wide range of construction projects, consistently ensuring high standards of workmanship and site safety. In my role as a tutor, I mentor and support apprentices, sharing practical skills and industry knowledge to help them grow into confident, capable professionals. I’m passionate about staying current with the latest techniques and technologies, and I take pride in creating an engaging, respectful, and safe learning environment that prepares learners for success on site.

Ivan Sharpe

Bricklaying Tutor

When I first left school, I went into Horticulture Engineering and was training as an Engineer, but soon discovered it wasn’t the career I wanted. I then started a bricklaying apprenticeship with George Wimpey, now known as Taylor Wimpey, I completed my 3 years and a Advanced craft in bricklaying. I spent around 20 years as a bricklayer, including working in Germany during the early 90’s. I had my own bricklaying contracting business during the mid 90’s and them moved into site management, where I then moved up to contracts managing and construction management. Helping and teaching people has always been a keen aspect of my working life and this forged a natural progression in to teaching apprenticeships in bricklaying.

Tom Callagan

Teaching Assistant and SEN support

I began my career as a Kickstarter trainee, where I developed a strong foundation in workplace skills, professionalism, and communication. This initial experience gave me the confidence to progress into a Business Administration apprenticeship, allowing me to build my organisational abilities, attention to detail, and understanding of how effective support functions contribute to a successful working environment.

Through my experience, I discovered a strong passion for supporting individuals in a more direct and meaningful way, particularly in helping people overcome barriers and reach their full potential. This has led me to make a purposeful transition into a career as a Teaching Assistant, with a focus on Special Educational Needs (SEN) support.

I am committed to creating inclusive, supportive learning environments where every individual feels valued and understood. I bring a calm, reliable approach, strong interpersonal skills, and a genuine dedication to helping learners build confidence, develop independence, and achieve their goals.

Megan Whitson

Business Administration Apprentice

As an Apprentice Business Administrator, I play a key role in supporting the daily operations of the business while managing all of our social media platforms. I have a strong passion for organisation, with paperwork and administrative tasks being a particular strength of mine.

Joining the Salutem team has been an amazing experience and has truly opened my eyes to the construction industry. Being part of such a dynamic and hardworking environment has been incredibly rewarding, and I’m proud to contribute to the company’s ongoing success.

Before joining Salutem, I worked in a doggy daycare, making this a big career change for me. However, it’s a change I don’t regret at all, as this role has allowed me to grow, learn new skills, and be part of an industry I now thoroughly enjoy.
